New Pelé auction features autographs and rare trading cards
The collection comes up for sale five months after the Brazilian star's death
Brazilian superstar Pele is widely regarded as one of the greatest soccer players in history.
Now collectors have the chance to own a piece of the three-time World Cup winner, who died this past Dec. 28 at the age of 82.
The Pele Collection includes a series of items in Heritage Auctions three-day sale that starts on Thursday.
“This is an extraordinary representation of Pele’s remarkable career, featuring some of his rarest soccer trading cards and memorabilia from his personal collection,” said Chris Ivy, Heritage’s Director of Sports Auctions.
Despite the game’s global popularity, trading cards featuring soccer players — especially of Pele — have been limited.
That has created a supply gap in the market for Pele cards. The auction features every cardboard appearance by the legendary Brazilian, including what Heritage called “the ultra-desirable” 1958 Aquarela Ltda card, the rare 1958-59 Tupinamba Ltda Quigol and the iconic 1970 Panini Mexico ‘70 sticker, his first Panini World Cup album appearance.
All the aforementioned cards up for auction have been graded and feature Pele’s signature.
You can bid on the items by visiting the Heritage Auctions website.
